Intermediate classes

Beginner Woodshop needed as a pre-requisite

Japanese tool chest

Tool chests are an ancient form in woodworking — they trace their origins across cultures to journeyman carpenters who stored the tools of their livelihood in simple, protected, and transportable boxes. Everything they needed was kept safe and sound within.

This Japanese style is a fabulous, accessible way to construct a chest of your own. Build one for tools, art supplies, clothes — basically anything. It’s highly modifiable outside and in (we can show you how to make little sliding tills for secret storage).

Beginner Woodshop is a prerequisite for this class.

Traditional Tool Box

Sometimes simplicity is the ultimate design. Yes, it’s another toolbox — but, just like the tool chest (above), it can be used for much more than that, and is a great exercise in simple construction of interconnected pieces. The box can be fastened with dowels or cut-nails (think: something a blacksmith would make).

This three session class is offered periodically — sign up for our waitlist to be the first to know about a new cohort.

Notched Shelf

We love this shelf for its simplicity and emphasis of the natural beauty of the wood. Using little more than a pair of notch-joints set into risers (plus some woodworking magic), the shelf is an elegant, tasteful accompaniment to a wide range of rooms and contexts — and can be modified almost infinitely.

This project is completed as part of our Foundations class and is not currently offered as a standalone project. Want to make one? We’ll teach you how in Foundations. Really want to make one? Okay, express interest via the waitlist below and we will be in touch.
