Make a Cutting Board
woodworking project class
This class is oriented around the satisfaction of making an object, and involves a slew of tools and processes via a guided build experience with our team. Participants will use a range of shop tools on this journey -- mostly power tools — and will be trained in shop safety with the tools and the basics of the material.
Design your board’s unique shape and size, with a choice of hardwoods including cherry, maple, ash, and red oak (all really wonderful). We’ll guide you through the process of shaping, detailing, and finishing your board with our homemade, natural food safe beeswax.
Over three weeks, we'll cover four core tools — table saw,, miter saw, planer, and, potentially drill and drill press for those on side-quests— learning each one as we cut and prep stock to build this project from scratch, seeing it through from design, to preparation, to assembly.
Power tools are, in many ways, the most accessible entry point into woodworking — they let us quickly dimension stock, make precise alterations, and build efficiently. And while a holistic woodworking practice ultimately draws on both power and hand tools, comfort with power tools is foundational to almost any project.
That efficiency comes with responsibility. Used well, power tools yield precision and safety; used carelessly, they create inaccuracy and risk. This class builds a grounded, respectful understanding of both sides of that equation.
