what is recess grove?

recess grove is a sanctuary for creativity and play: a place to move slow, make things and meet people — with creative experiences, classes, workshops, special events, plus an all day cafe with tasty food and drink

327 Grand Street, Brooklyn, NY 11211 (between Havemeyer St & Marcy Ave in Williamsburg, off the Metropolitan L/G or the Marcy Av J/M/Z)

what are your open hours?

monday - thursday:  10 AM – 9 PM

friday: 10 AM – 10 PM

saturday: 11 AM – 10 PM

sunday: 11 AM – 6 PM

how can i get in touch?

is recess grove wheelchair accessible?

our space is located at street level and is wheelchair accessible. we’re happy to provide any accommodations.

does recess grove accept materials donations?

we’re happy to take donations for gently-used art supplies, magazines, books, or other creative materials.

can i make art with my ipad at recess grove?

while we discourage working on laptops in the evenings and on weekends, writing or digital drawing are different :)

is recess grove currently hiring?

we do not have any positions currently available, but we’re always looking to meet other passionate creative people. feel free to swing by to introduce yourself in person :)

what kinds of creative activities are offered?

drawing, coloring, mural painting, watercolor, polymer clay sculpture, pastel, printmaking, crochet, and more. we offer skill-based foundations classes in drawing, watercolor, linocut, jewelry making, and more, plus our woodshop hosts woodworking classes for all levels

what art supplies do you have?

the counter has colored pencils, activity books and coloring books, friendship bracelets, origami, games, and more. 

the studio has drawing tools (markers, pens, graphite, charcoal, colored pencils and pastels); painting supplies (watercolor and acrylic); collage materials; polymer clay; fiber (crochet, knitting, embroidery, macrame, and a sewing machine); beaded jewelry and more!

is food and drink available?

we offer hot and cold drinks (coffee, tea, matcha, etc.), beer, wine and cider, and light bites and snacks to enjoy while you create. check out our food and drink menu here

does recess grove serve alcohol?

we serve beer, wine and hard cider – as well as a menu of spirit free cocktails

how much does it cost to visit?

our counter is free to walk-in anytime! we have activity books, coloring books, colored pencils, origami, and more – all included with your food or drink order. you're also welcome to bring your own supplies if you like.

if you’re looking for more supplies and support while you create, you can book a studio session in our studio, which includes all the supplies, space, and any guidance you need for up to 3 hours for $39. walk-in studio sessions are also available.

does recess grove host classes?

reservations

do I need a reservation to visit?

nope! you can walk in anytime and grab a seat at the counter for free self-serve creative activities. 

for more space, supplies, and guidance you can walk in (or reserve) a studio session. you can also reserve a spot to an event or class.

how do I make a reservation?

book a studio session here or reserve a spot at a class or event here. to reserve a table, email reservations@recessgrove.com 

what does a studio session include?

a studio sesh includes access to our inspiring space and all the art supplies, tools, and guidance from our team of artists to support your creative journey

can I book multiple tickets for a class?

on the check out confirmation page, you can click the link to ‘book another class’.  or register another person using their email address.

what is your refund and cancellation policy?

classes and events may be changed or cancelled for a full refund at least 72 hrs prior to the event. please refer to the email confirmation for a link to make changes.

if you need to cancel within 72 hrs for sickness or another issue, you can receive credit towards a future class or event — just email us at reservations@recessgrove.com


do you offer membership?

membership is $99 per month and includes unlimited access to our studio and art supplies, storage, member events, discounted classes, and free coffee and tea. learn more about membership here.

can I host my own private party or event?
