‘DIY’
Doing something yourself is about so much more than the ‘thing’ — it’s about having a vision, a process, and the skills to realize it.
Our DIY classes introduce you to the tools and approaches to figure things out, get stuff done, and bring ideas to life.
beginner DIY
Our core class for a base of strong DIY skills, ‘Beginner DIY’ teaches you the tools and methods to get things done around the house — and turn cool ideas into functional objects.
Over the course of two sessions, learn the basics of project design, sawing, fastening (using a drill and screws), assembly, and finishing methods.
This class centers around a project to apply the skills: a customized wooden entryway shelf.
Beginner DIY is a pathway into DIY project classes that build on these skills and apply them in new and interesting ways.

what’s the difference between Beginner DIY and Beginner Woodshop?
There are different paths into woodworking, and many will eventually intersect.
Beginner DIY is a foundational class for making objects using simple methods and a limited set of tools, and a stepping stone into a world of useful skills around the home and in other woodworking projects.
This class won’t teach you how to use a hand plane or craft a custom shelf from maple, but it will teach you the basics of how to design and construct objects using wood.
Beginner Woodshop is a one-session introduction to the tools, material, and mindset of a woodshop — it’s a great precursor to Woodworking Foundations, our core woodworking class for those looking to craft beautiful and unique objects that celebrate the beauty and depth of wood.
If you can dream it, we’ll help you on your path to making it in our woodshop.
