Dovetails are the classic joint in woodworking: they’re incredibly versatile in application and beautiful in form. In this 5-session class, learn how to make a beautiful open-topped box using dovetail joints.
The Dovetail joint is one of the most iconic joints in the craft of woodworking, creating superb ‘tensile’ strength for a wide range of applications from boxes to drawers, furniture to casework. The form of a dovetail itself is gorgeous, with a range of construction methods, all requiring high levels of skill on the part of the craftsperson. It’s a foundational joint that broadens a woodworker’s approach to the design of objects.
Our goal is for the students who complete this class to develop a strong, working knowledge of how to make this signature joint. We’ll cover every critical component of the process as we build an open-topped box with a full range of hand tools.
