FAQs

What ages are eligible?
Middle school children in grades 6-8, ages 10-14

What does the day look like?
A full day creativity camp immerses your child in artistic exploration and play. We start with doodling and intention setting followed by small group break outs across art media. We come back together for snack time before switching media in our small group break outs. All staff and students eat lunch together and get some outdoor time at a nearby park. If the weather isn’t cooperating, we’ll host a dance party inside. After we eat and move our bodies, we switch art media one last time in the afternoon, and end the day with reflections and project sharing.

Art media includes watercolor, acrylic paint, collage, printmaking, fiber arts, jewelry, polymer clay, and building simple objects in our woodshop.

Why is creativity good for my child?
At Recess Grove, we know art is a form of education and skill development that provides social support, novel experiences, creates opportunities for emotional expression, and builds resilience. Arts-engaged kids are more likely to live healthier lives and make better decisions.

Creativity and art making help children with focus, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Artistic expression and the creative process have been proven to enhance cognitive abilities, foster greater self-awareness, and help teens regulate their emotions.

Our creativity camp is a friendly, stimulating, and safe environment for your child to begin (or continue!) a journey of artistic exploration. Not only will they immerse themselves in a range of art media, they’ll create in an environment that balances collaboration and independence, encouraging play and camaraderie.

Do I have to provide food for my child?
Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are not included, but we have a delicious cafe with tons of great options for kids. We can accommodate all dietary restrictions and preferences.

How is the creativity camp staffed?
There is at least 1 adult instructor for every 4 students.
